Project Sites

We are initially focusing on six regions worldwide: the Pacific Northwest Coast, the Four Corners of the American Southwest, Central Europe, Oceania, the Australian desert, and the North Atlantic Islands (Fig. 1). In each of these well-studied areas we are compiling comprehensive data on the taxa that humans interacted with via consumption and other uses, as well as other data related to human culture and the environment. By compiling the same kinds of data and applying uniform methods to analyze them, we can examine commonalities and differences in how humans have shaped ecosystems and environments and vice-versa.

Figure 1. Map indicating each of our study areas (in red). They are: the Pacific Northwest, the American Southwest, French Polynesia, Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands, north-central Europe, and Western Australia.
